Top of the morning to you from a very grey and wet Warwickshire. I arrived home just before 1am on Thursday morning after two great shows on Hochanda with Hannah and Alex. Huge thanks to everyone involved in the shows for your help and support.
If you got to watch the shows you might recognise the box above. (Large This N' That box). I decided to alter it in a different way by adding a recess to the lid and then made a feature in the 1/4" deep centre section by adding lettering and a few of the cute little outfits from left over paper used on the sides. It's quite easy to alter a chipboard kit with a craft knife or paper trimmer and adding a recess keeps the top of the box flat too - easier to store and use. After finishing the lid I covered all the pieces of the box with paper, piecing in the border sections to the base papers to give a flat seamless finish to them. Then I assembled it from the inside using construction strips to join the pieces together for a seamless finish I love the look you get when you do that. You can use fabric to cover the boxes by assembling them this way too. Here's a few more pics of the finished box;
I added the ribbon support to the inside before sticking the papers in place on left of the lid and base, a couple of die cut corner pieces to the outer corners of the lid, painted wooden feet to the base and metal hinges by Tim Holtz to join the base to the lid. I think it's my favourite of all the samples of this kit I made for the shows :-) Here's the supply list if you'd like to make one yourself.

ReplyDeleteI forgot to say, it looks like the fireworks will be awesome too! Enjoy! xxx
ReplyDeleteWe are receiving a much needed rain here as well Clare!! It rained off and on all day yesterday and through the night!! Had to let the dog out this morning so I will have a very wet doggy to let back in later. Love the little dos, it is so cute, I watched you make it on Hochanda and thought it very cute. It would be a nice keepsake box for a baby shower gift!! You could put photos or baby's first curl from a haircut, outfits, whatever, it is really cute. Thanks for sharing as always!! Judy in Arizona
ReplyDeleteLoving your box Clare ,have fun with H and enjoy the fireworks, hope the rain stays away for you.

Morning Clare, I'm absolutely loving this Baby box, truly gorgeous !!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely time with H, and hoping the fireworks display is great !!
I'm sick of the fireworks going off around my home, we have had them going off for 2 weeks now, on and off, my cat has been petrified, I don't think these people realise that it is actually illegal to let fireworks off except on specified occasions !! Right, I will get off my soapbox now hahaha.
Have a lovely weekend.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
This is a truly ingenious idea. I have seen exploding mini boxes before, but never with such a practical purpose. I would love to make one.
