Come and join me in my craft room

Hi everyone, I've finally gotten around to doing a video from my Craft Room this week so thought I'd share it with you,  along with a bunch of ideas and tips I picked up before I started that may help you if you're thinking of redesigning your crafty space too.
1. Where do you start..........!!!!?  Watch videos on You Tube and check out Pinterest for ideas. Looking at the mountain of crafty products I'd accumulated over the years, most of which was towering around me as I worked from the dining room table I knew I needed an organised space, that was light and airy.
2. What colour should it be - there are so many options out there.  I fell in love with some curtains, they were my starting point so after buying a load of samples and doodling on different walls I eventually went for Duck Egg Blue to create a calm backdrop.
3. What sort of storage and what colour?   A great tip I picked up was think big rather than small.  We're hoarders lol!! I decided on white units and having seen loads of rooms kitted out in Ikea storage took myself off to our local store. They have so many mix and match solutions at really reasonable prices.  I did two visits just to look at stuff but not to buy and then a whole load more trips to pick everything up. Oh and then a couple more after the room was finished too.
3. Do you want things out on show or stored away? - this was a great tip.  I went for away.....  After looking at what I wanted to store away I could decide on the unit sizes.
4.  Plan the furniture into your space - my room is only 12'  x 8' ish but the ceilings are really high. I measured, remeasured, including the inside spaces of units and drawer inserts to check they'd hold 12 x 12 papers, as well as everything else to give me maximum vertical storage and a maximum floor space to move around in to.  I went for freestanding units rather than fitted cabinets.
5.  Get the maximum from the space you have - The Kallax Units are great for everything 12 x 12. The Billy Bookcase & extension shelf were perfect for the door wall.  (A narrower unit, with moveable shelves) which left me a good walkway into the room and space to get into the corner of the Kallax unit on the side wall too).

6.  Are you filming in your room?  - decide where your camera needs to be, what lighting you need and the electrics.  I went for a wall mounted Manfrotto camera arm, Mini Sun LED bulbs and electrics including USB points fixed under the desk. Oli fitted the electrics and USB points under the desk......
7.  Do you need a photography area? - I factored in space for a photo tent/surfaces for photoing and additional lighting
8. What do you need to hand when you're crafting? -  I went for wall mounted pegboards and accessories from Ikea above my desk rather than on it to keep my working surface to a maximum too.
9.  Label things - what a great tip that was. I bought a Dymo labeller, labelled everything so no more rummaging through boxes:-)
After two weeks of hard graft and an extra week or two to sort through eerything and move it into it's new home I'm loving my new space and all the things around me that make me happy...........💗💗💗💗

  1. Hi Clare, Wow Wow Wow !!!! I just adore what you have done in your new craft room, your storage and organisation is fantastic, I am so jealous haha. Mine is mix and match furniture that I got fed up with downstairs and paper racks I got from work when we moved from one location to another and we could take anything we could use, my large typist chair came from there too. But organisation is not very good at all and it is bulging at the seams with stuff, some I don't know what I have and find myself duplicating things haha. It would be lovely to start with an empty room, like you have, and design it from there, because you have designed yours to perfection, every inch has been carefully thought out. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous and really well done !!
Lots of love from Patricia xx
